The DVI Splitter

A DVI switch is a device that is used to connect two or more computer monitors or video sources, so that they can be used simultaneously. For instance if your computer tasks mean you need a large number of sites or windows to be open at the same time, it would be much more convenient for you to use two monitors running side by side, or even two monitors and a CPU. This is quite feasible using this device. You can also use a DVI switch box to connect two complete systems, with two towers.

In order to set up the dual monitor system, you will need two video cards, or a single dual-monitor video card. The single card will have two connectors, an analog connector and a DVI connector. The card requires the installation of a software program.

Alternatively you may want the switch to connect several DVI (digital visual display) sources and to be able to switch among them to a single monitor. For instance you may want to use a gaming console along with a personal computer, a laptop and a DVD. Using this device you can eliminate the need for several displays and save a great deal of space.

The switch is very simple to use, by connecting it to the monitor or other display device, and plugging the video sources into the USB ports. The device is available in 2 port or 4 port format. The 2 port model allows you to route two PCs or other DVI equipped appliances to a single DVI display, while the 4 port DVI switch enables you to connect four appliances. The device can be operated with either a push button or a remote control, and can work with any kind of display including digital TVs, plasma screens, and gaming consoles.

If you want to connect digital video displays to HDMI (high definition multimedia interface) appliances, it is possible to use an HDMI to DVI switch. DVI and HDMI both use digital signals, so there is no requirement to convert digital signals to analog and back to digital. All you need to do is plug in the connections and you are ready to go.

The switch is not only for individual use. It is also available in matrix format, which allows connection between multiple video sources and multiple displays. This means it can facilitate conferences and presentations, and can be used in remote training facilities or control centers, where information from several sources has to be relayed to a single display. In fact, the uses of this small device are almost endless, and it has indeed brought a revolution to the multimedia world.
